Link to Alexander LetterThe Canadian International Military Tattoo is a not-for-profit charitable organization. With a magnificent castle backdrop, superb lighting and acoustics, it is the finest and largest military band show in central Canada. Produced annually in the City of Hamilton, Ontario, it showcases international, national and local performers, both military and civilian, including pipes and drums, military and brass bands, dancers, and military drill teams and demonstrations. The Tattoo honours the virtues of military service and the sacrifice of those who fell in Canada’s wars, and seeks to preserve our nation’s military traditions. There is no community west of Halifax that mounts such a spectacle. Read a message from our Honorary Patron, Colonel The Honourable Lincoln Alexander, PC, CC, CD, QC, by clicking on the photograph.

The Canadian International Military Tattoo is presented at Copps Coliseum, an NHL-sized arena in downtown Hamilton, close to the city’s finest hotels and restaurants. The show is bus tour-friendly, with an average of over seventy-five bus groups attending the performances.

Tattoo Staff

The Canadian International Tattoo Association Inc. produces the Tattoo with a volunteer staff that develops the production in all of its aspects. On event days, the volunteer base expands to about fifty people who sell programmes and souvenirs, receive visitors and work behind the scenes in many varied roles.

Audience Base

The Tattoo's audience varies in size from about 6,000 to 10,000, some from as far away as Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Quebec and New Brunswick. While many are age 50 or more, the high profile of Canada's current overseas military deployments has increased public interest in the military which, in turn, has broadened the demographics of our audience. More and more middle-aged and younger families are now regularly attending.

This year, we will continue our campaign to involve elementary school students with the Tattoo. Organized groups of students will have the opportunity to watch a rehearsal, learn about Hamilton's military history and enjoy an interactive experience with the production staff, musicians and other performers. In 2008 over 900 students and their teachers were treated to a perfomance and met members of a premier military band from England.

Cultural Groups and Performers

It takes upwards of five hundred performers to put on the Canadian International Military Tattoo. The 2010 production, celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Navy and commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the start of the Korean War, honours the achievement of Canada’s military tradition through music and perfomances that are, at once, entertaining and educational. Tattoo 2010 is taking place in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on June 12 at 7:30 p.m. and June 13 at 2:30 p.m., 2010. Read more about this year's theme.

The show will also feature several popular local bands as well as exciting international acts. Among the performers are The Windsor Regiment (RCAC) Band, The Royal Regiment of Canada Band, The Military Band of The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (Wentworth Regiment), The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada Pipes and Drums, The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment) Pipes and Drums, the 48th Highlanders of Canada Pipes and Drums, the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, the Dundas Pipes and Drums and the United States Navy Silent Drill Team. World-class dancers, in brilliant costume, will enhance the music with their classical interpretation of ancient themes. View a complete list of this the 2010 performers.

(Program subject to change. Appearance of acts is subject to the exigencies of the service.)
